Despite the fact that we are only halfway through 2021, the 2022 candidates for state-wide
office are starting to announce their bids to win over the Massachusetts electorate. With news
that Governor Baker may run for a third term and Auditor Suzanne Bump announcing that she
will not seek re-election, the news coverage on next year’s election has already started. Here
are the candidates that are rumored to run and those that have already announced their
candidacy.
MA Governor’s Race
● Professor Danielle Allen (D)- Announced candidacy
● Governor Charlie Baker (R)– Rumored to run for a third term
● Scott Donohue (D)- Announced candidacy
● Former State Senator Ben Downing (D) – Announced candidacy
● State Senator, Sonia Chang-Diaz (D) – Announced a candidacy
● Mayor of Somerville, Joseph Curtatone (D) – Rumored to run
● Attorney General, Maura Healey (D)– Rumored to run
● Orlando Silva (D) – Announced candidacy
MA Lt. Governor’s Race
● State Representative Tami Gouveia (D) – Announced candidacy
● Former Barnstable County Commissioner, Ronald Beaty (R) – Considering a run
● Rayla Campbell (R) – Announced candidacy
● State Senator Eric Lesser (D)– Rumored to run
● State Senator Adam Hinds (D) – Rumored to run
MA Auditor’s Race
● Governor’s Councillor Eileen Duff (D)– Dropped out
● State Senator Diana DiZoglio (D) – Announced candidacy
● Chris Dempsey (D) – Announced candidacy
● Senator Marc Pacheo (D) – Rumored to run
Many of the candidates are already serving in the Massachusetts Legislature, which will only
create more of a shake-up on Beacon Hill. If these candidates file papers to run for state-wide
office, then Massachusetts would see a higher rate of open seats than usual.
Nonetheless, with crowded fields forming before 2022, we are watching to see who will take
the lead and gain traction with the voters in Massachusetts.
