Adult-use Cannabis in New Jersey
In November 2020, New Jersey voters approved cannabis for adult use, quickly leading to the introduction of the Cannabis Regulatory, Enforcement Assistance, and Marketplace Modernization (CREAMM) Act for the monitoring and regulation of cannabis sales.
Establishing the Cannabis Regulatory Commission, the Act has enabled adults 21 and over to partake in recreational cannabis sales since April 2021. With no set limit on the number of cannabis businesses and the cap for Class I Cultivators set at 37, license applications remain open until February 23, 2023.
Permitted products include concentrated oils, dried flower, tinctures, lozenges, resin, vape formulas, and soft chews, with brownies, cookies, and other perishable edibles still illegal for recreational cannabis use.

New Jersey legalized medical marijuana in 2010 with the passage of The Compassionate Use Medical Marijuana Act, allowing registered patients to access monitored, regulated facilities for their medical cannabis.
Under the Compassionate Use Medical Marijuana Act, 24 licensed dispensaries are owned by vertically integrated companies, with children and adults both qualifying for medical marijuana. However, slow growth has been seen in this area due to the limited list of conditions allowed, as well as a surge in pricing.
